I’m looking for a wedding gown (just browsing right now) and was wondering if you knew of any that fit my criteria. I’m looking for a simple full length gown, with no beading or lace, a deep v-neck, and straps at least 1 inch in width. I don’t really care about the price right now, as I’m just looking, so if you think I’ll like it, please suggest it. Thanks!
Please don’t suggest a generic site (ie. David’s Bridal) without a direct link to a dress (or dresses).
I also do not want to have a large Cinderella type skirt, I would prefer something more slender.
Ok, I have been trying on some dresses, but I’m looking for some example of what I think I want, as I haven’t seen anything appealing yet. Please stop suggesting that I go try some on.
If you think I’m rude, then don’t answer, no one’s got a gun to your head.
Buy some Bridal magazines, they also show were you can purchase the dress. davidsbridal.com/bridalcollection.jsp Go to this link you’ll find hundreds of dresses. Nothing says you have to buy a dress from there . The site just has some beautiful dresses.
I have seen many of this style in a bridesmaid dress. You might also search the bridesmaids dresses as many of them come in white.
BadMonkey is absolutely correct! I had a an idea of what I wanted in a wedding gown. I wanted a halter style dress with a splash of color. I went into a small local bridal shop and received the most excellent service. The saleswoman talked me into trying on a gown that I NEVER would have picked out for myself. Wouldn’t you know? It’s THE ONE!!! You need to go and try every possible style on before you rule anything out. Remeber, a good bridal shop has seen thousands of brides with all different body types and a good salesperson can pick out what gowns would look best for your body type. Go to multiple bridal shops and try on as many dresses as you can. Your dress will stand out whether you tried it on first, last or in the middle. (my dress was the last dress I tried on at the 3rd of 4 bridal shops I went to)
Also, theknot.com is the place where EVERY bride to be should start looking for ideas. It’s free to register and they have TONS of good info, including an extensive dress section.
One more thing… I went to David’s Bridal, against my mother’s wishes because her friend is involved in a class action lawsuit against them. My mother was shocked at the horrendous quality of the dresses they sold!!! She made her own wedding dress and is quite knowledgable about fabrics and tayloring, as it was her job to make custom garments for others when I was young. I would suggest going to a local bridal shop. You’ll get better quality and more importantly, better service!
PLease what ever you do do not go to Davids Bridal they are rude and not helpful and will probably order you the wrong dresses like they did me. I tell you were I went, I live in Asheville NC, I went to DIllards outlet, and found this beautiful simple dress and if your on a budget it doesnt hurt to look there, they had some beautiful dresses, they get all sorts of stuff there not just prom dresses, and I got it way cheaper than what my brides maids paid! lol!
Honestly, you need to go into a bridal salon and indiscriminately try things on. Don’t go in there with an agenda, let whoever you take with you and the salon assistants bring you a stack of dresses to try on and have fun. The dress I ended up with wasn’t even close to what I thought I’d get – I didn’t even like it on the hanger but it was a whole other ball game when I got it on.
Just so you can start to have a look at some pics, though, here’s the link to theknot.com’s wedding dress search page http://weddings.theknot.com/weddingdress/bs_main.aspx?gowntype=1. Plug your criteria in there and have a see what it comes up with, but don’t make up your mind on pictures alone – go and try some stuff on.

Here are some dresses that I tried on, but they all have some form of beading or a brooch. I haven’t seen too many dresses THAT simple, but you could look at bridesmaid dresses also.
Congrats on your big day!
